Our success is in direct proportion to the quality and quantity of the services and information we provide. That's why our management style is about developing people, not controlling them. We strive to meet the demands of our sales staff, realizing that if something is in the best interest of our associates, it's in the best interest of management.

With this philosophy in mind, we help sales associates set and achieve aggressive sales goals. Our sales associates live up to our high expectations.

Of interest to new recruits

Prudential Kahler REALTORS® takes great pride in assisting new recruits in reaching their potential. We realize that our company can only be as good as our sales associates. The qualities we look for in an agent include:

  • Goal-oriented
  • Self motivated
  • Positive attitude
  • High self-esteem
  • High commitment level
  • Professional nature
  • Organized and consistent
  • Team player

Turning rookies into veterans

Our new recruit program helps motivated and committed agents reach their highest levels of potential. This hands-on training provides new agents with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to begin making successful transactions and client contacts immediately.

New agents are given full opportunity to list and sell during training – in fact we expect you to begin right away. We will start out by familiarizing you with our proven successful prospecting and follow-up system. You'll also benefit from plenty of one-on-one assistance and supervision available from staff and sales managers during and following training.

Extra marketing and promotional incentives are provided to new agents at company expense to boost the successes of early producers, including: yard signs, name riders, calling cards, and monthly advertising.

People tend to stay in an environment where they are growing. Come grow with us!

Principles & Practices

Who needs to be licensed? Any person, unless exempt, who, for valuable consideration negotiates for another or auctions any real estate interest for another needs to be licensed in South Dakota. A license is also required for any person who engages in the business of selling property where a "pattern of selling real property is established," whether or not they own real estate.

Licenses granted by the state include licenses for real estate brokers, auctioneers, property managers, mortgage brokers, and time-share agents. The qualifications for each title vary. The first step is to acquire your broker associates license – from there you can move on to get your responsible broker license, as desired.

Licensing process

Candidates for a broker associate license must:

  • Complete 116 hours of Real Estate Principles & Practices at a state-approved school and pass the final exam
  • Pass the state exam with a score of at least 75%
  • Be at least 18 years old and of reputable character

Recommended schools in South Dakota that offer broker associate instruction include Kahler School of Real Estate, (605) 343-7500 in Rapid City, Dakota West Institute, (605) 787-4747 in Rapid City, and Pro/Ed, (800) 658-3959 or (605) 331-4900 in Sioux Falls.

Upon passing the state exam (both portions), you will receive an inactive license. When you come join us at Prudential Kahler REALTORS®, we will help you activate your license.

Start-up costs

Launching your real estate career can seem expensive ... but with hard work your initial investment multiplies.

The Real Estate Principles & Practices class typically costs $1,200 which includes both the 54 hour online study and the 62 hour instructor lead class including books. The cost of taking the real estate broker associate test is currently $200.00.

The R.E. commission charges $225 to issue the license
